The Beginning: June 2017

Trailering day - front left

June 2017.

Hi – I’m Roland and I’m undertaking the renovation of the Citroen SM you see featured on this blog.  My intention is to use this blog to trap my progress on this journey.

This 1973 SM is an Italian market model with fuel injection (SC series) and cloth interior.   It has a little over 60,000 miles on it.

The picture you see above is how it looked after rolling it out of the garage in late June 2017.  I trailered it to my home near Quilcene, Washington with the intent of getting it back on the road.

In June, 2016, my father passed away leaving my mother with his long dormant Citroen SM in the garage.  The car was purchased in 1980 while my father was working as a consulting engineer to  AerItalia near Naples, Italy.   On his return to the Seattle area in late 1981, he imported the car and it pretty much sat under a cover since then.  It was running and licensed at the time, but life got busy and the car eventually just sat.

The car has just about 60k miles and is pretty much a (dusty and dirty) time capsule:

By 2Q17, it was time for mom to sell her house and the car needed to be moved.

Rather than just offer the car up for sale as a project, I have decided to get it roadworthy again.  In June, 2017 – I got the car up off its haunches (using this trick), pushed it out in the driveway, and trailered it to my house near Quilcene, Washington (approximately 100 miles and a ferry trip).

As of this writing, the SM is in my garage next to my 1954 GMC pickup.  This shot was taken at the end of the trailering day:

Trailering day - made it home!

And now… on to the adventure of reviving this “garage find”!

Let’s see how the adventure progresses!
